<strong>Evans Qualifies for NCAA Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – In the first meet of the season for the University of Arkansas men’s indoor track and field squad, senior Kenny Evans automatically qualified in the high jump with a leap of 7-4.50 at the SEC Quad meet at the Randal Tyson Track Center on Friday night.
“He was very mature about it,” UA assistant coach Dick Booth said. “He wanted to get his automatically qualifying height as soon as possible. He set his practice height at 6-8 and then moved it up.”
Despite strong performances by Razorback competitors, UA finished third behind Florida and Texas in the team totals and edged out Ole Miss.
“It is not a habit we are used to with not winning” Booth said. “But it is the first meet of the season and that is how we look at it as just the first meet. If good things were to happen than that would be great. Kenny did a great job. We had some young kids running in their first collegiate meet. Some did well and some others did not.”
Phil Yoder, competing in his first meet as a Razorback, grabbed the 5,000-meter race with a time of 15:16.43.
In the mile, Ryan Travis barely missed the provisional qualifying mark in the mile with a time of 4:06.06.
In their first meet ever for the Hogs, freshmen P.J. Brown and Blake Jorgenson had outstanding outings in the pole vault with Brown clearing 16-2.75 finishing fourth and Jorgenson clearing 15-9.0 finishing fifth. Evan Kirkconnell cleared 15-3.0 finishing seventh in the pole jump.
In the long jump, Ramon Washington jumped 25-4.75 finishing first while Richard Smith finished third with a jump of 24-3.50. Eddie Jackson finished third in the in 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.01. In the triple jump, Maurice Robinson jumped 51-7.00.
Fayetteville native Daniel Lincoln was close to provisional qualifying in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:05.20 with Murray Link close behind in second with a time of 8:15.33.
The Razorbacks return to competition on Friday and Saturday, January 26-27, at the Razorback Invitational at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
