Nice Start: The Lady’Backs got the 2006 spring season started off right, winning all three of their opening weekend matches. Arkansas shutout Oral Roberts University and Missouri State University in a Friday afternoon doubleheader, then handled Wichita State University on Sunday with a 6-1 effort.
Up Next: Arkansas is turning up the competition this weekend with a trip to Lincoln, Neb. in a match against Big 12 rival Nebraska on Feb. 13. The Lady’Backs saw some action against Nebraska at the ITA Central Regional Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah last October. Arkansas was 2-0 against the Cornhuskers, with one win from singles and doubles. Freshman Aurelija Miseviciute notched the singles tally for Arkansas with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Kim Hartmann.
History with Nebraska: Arkansas is 2-1 all-time against Nebraska dating back to the 1979-80 season. The Lady’Backs have not met the Cornhuskers since 1989, but it was a happy ending; Arkansas won 5-4.
Yup, officially 28-0: Against Missouri State that is. That’s right, the Lady Razorbacks are undefeated against the Missouri State Bears. Arkansas notched its 28th victory over MSU on Friday, Jan. 27 with a 7-0 win. The series began during the 1979-80 season, and marks Arkansas largest series record.
Some Numbers: Freshman Aurelija Miseviciute was good this weekend against Oral Roberts, Missouri State and Wichita State. Really good. The career 16-1 freshman put up gaudy numbers, going 36-2 in total singles games played. In other words, she won three matches while only surrendering two games to her opponents. That’s a 94.7 percent game winning percentage so far this spring.
