Fall Practice Picks Up With Intra-Squad Scrimmages

FAYETTEVILLE – In preparation for its upcoming fall season, the University of Arkansas softball program begins team practices Thursday at Bogle Park. The Razorbacks will participate in intra-squad scrimmages beginning at 4:30 p.m. (CT) as part of their workout schedule. Prior to Thursday’s scrimmage, practices consisted of individual workout sessions.

"It’s just great to be back out on the field after a successful season last year," head coach Mike Larabee said. "These scrimmages coming up give our players the opportunity to start competing. This is, by far, the most talented and deepest team I’ve had and I couldn’t tell you who was going to start in any position. Now, we’ll throw them into that competitive caldron."

Arkansas’ fall schedule begins Oct. 2 with a pair of home games against Butler CC and Evangel. First pitch of the fall season is set for 4 p.m. at Bogle Park. The Razorbacks will also host a doubleheader with Oklahoma State on Oct. 20. Arkansas will travel to Norman, Okla., to face defending NCAA champion Oklahoma in a doubleheader on Oct. 6. The team will close out its fall schedule Oct. 26 with a doubleheader with Louisiana Tech in Texarkana, Ark.

Last season, Arkansas posted a 36-20 overall record to go along with a 12-10 mark in Southeastern Conference play. Both win totals are highs for the program under Larabee who is entering his fifth season as the Razorbacks’ head coach. The team’s success during the regular season translated to a No. 6 seed in the SEC Tournament-the program’s highest conference seeding since 2002-and a No. 2 seed in the Norman Regional of the NCAA Tournament.

Among the list of returners for Arkansas, the team welcomes back NCAA on-base percentage champion Devon Wallace and All-SEC Second Team performer Kimmy Beasley. Wallace, an NFCA All-South Region performer in 2013, set the SEC single-season walks record last year (79) and led the country with a .627 on-base percentage. In the circle, Beasley was 12-9 with a 2.61 ERA and 171 strikeouts.
