Fans Shake DWRRS, Create Electric Atmosphere

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium keeps getting louder.

It was so loud during Ole Miss’ final possession late in the fourth quarter that ESPN play-by-play commentator Joe Tessitore said during the national broadcast, “You can actually feel Razorback Stadium shaking under our feet right now.”

Tessitore was referring to 73,786 Razorback fans screaming at the top of their lungs as Ole Miss lined up for a fourth and 16 play on its 20-yard line. As Rebel quarterback Chad Kelly scrambled along the left sideline attempting to cross the first down marker, sophomore defensive back Santos Ramirez’s hit jarred the ball loose, and it bounced out of bounds, securing the win for Arkansas.

The roar that erupted from DWRRS after Kelly’s fumble is the loudest sound level recorded during a home game this season: 117 decibels. That’s 2 dBs higher, or 1.2 times as loud, than the previous high mark, 115 dBs, recorded last week when Arkansas ran through the A during the Alabama game. It’s also comparable to the noise a turbofan-powered aircraft at takeoff power generates from 200 feet.

The electric atmosphere at DWRRS on Saturday can be summed up by the following statistics we recorded during the game:

• Fan-generated sound levels exceeded 100 dBs a total of 55 times through four quarters of play. That number topped the previous mark of 43 set last week against Alabama. In comparison, the 100 dB mark was only breached 18 times during the home opener against Louisiana Tech and 17 times against Texas State.

• The average sound level at DWRRS on Saturday was 95 dBs, an increase of 2 dBs from the average crowd noise recorded during the game against Alabama.

• This has been the loudest second half at DWRRS this season, surpassing the previous high marks generated during the home opener against Louisiana Tech.

• Fans turned the volume up to 11 on third down, generating an average of 102.2 dBs of sound. That is louder than a helicopter flying overhead at 100 feet. Ole Miss was 6 for 14 on third down during the game.

The five loudest moments at DWRRS during the Ole Miss game were:

1. 117 dB: Kelly’s nine-yard rush, fumble and turnover on downs during the fourth quarter to seal the win for Arkansas.

2. 111 dB: Austin Allen’s 51-yard touchdown pass to Dominique Reed in the first quarter to lift Arkansas to an early 7-0 lead.

3. 109.3 dB: Kelly’s pass is intercepted by Brooks Ellis during the third quarter, but is nullified by an Arkansas offside penalty.

3. 109.3 dB: Crowd reaction to Ole Miss lining up for a fourth and 3 attempt.

4. 109.2 dB: Allen’s 13-yard touchdown pass to Drew Morgan during the first quarter that increased Arkansas’ lead 14-6 over Ole Miss

5. 109 dB: Kelly is sacked for a loss of eight yards during the waning moments of the fourth quarter.

This week, the football team will be on the road at No. 21 Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium. Arkansas will wrap up its Southeastern Conference home slate in November when No. 15 Florida and No. 25 LSU visit DWRRS.

Let’s make sure to keep DWRRS the loudest place to play in the SEC and give the Gators and Tigers a rowdy welcome.
