HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – University of Arkansas sophomore Maria Fassi counted a first-round 1-over 72 leading the 12th-ranked Razorbacks on day one of the Sixth Annual Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on Friday.

Fassi and the Razorbacks have some work to do to climb up the leaderboard after counting a 302 in the first round. The Razorbacks are 15th overall with two days remaining. Arkansas is just eight strokes back of the middle of the pack in the talented field that features three top-10 teams and 10 of the top-20 teams in the country.

Fassi hovered between 1-under and 1-over all day but finished with back-to-back bogeys on the 16th and 17th holes shooting 72. She is tied for 15th place after round one at the Long Cove Club.

Junior Alana Uriell is 5-over with a 76 and is tied for 56th overall. Kaylee Benton, Summar Roachell and Cara Gorlei are all 6-over and tied for 59th overall.

“It’s not the start we were looking for but the great thing about golf is that we get two more days to move up the leaderboard and execute our game plan,” Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said. “We have a solid group of five young women who have all the tools to accomplish that mission. Now it’s time to trust our preparation and play our hearts out the last two days.”
