HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – University of Arkansas sophomore Maria Fassi continues to lead the Razorbacks posting her second consecutive 1-over 72 in round two of the Sixth Annual Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina on Saturday.

The Razorbacks moved up three spots from round one and are 12th, shooting 302–297—599 with one round remaining against the challenging field. Arkansas is just five strokes back of the middle of the pack in the talented field that features three top-10 teams and 10 of the top-20 teams in the country.

Fassi played the front side even and was two holes away from a great opening nine. The Hildalgo, Mexico, native posted birdies on the second, fifth and sixth holes but a double on No. 4 and a bogey on No.8 added to her stroke count.

Fassi was even through 15 holes but a bogey on No. 16 was all that stood between her and an even-par round. She is tied for ninth place overall.

Junior Alana Uriell also played well shaving three strokes off her round one total shooting a 2-over 73 on Saturday. Uriell won her first college tournament before the winter break and has been consistently among Arkansas’ leaders this season.

Sophomores Kaylee Benton and Cara Gorlei continue to match each other’s scores. The duo is in the clubhouse with identical rounds of 77–76—153 and are tied for 58th overall. Senior Summar Roachell is 70th shooting 77–79—156.

“We had a little better round today but I know we still have not played our best golf,” Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said. “We took a step in the right direction with this round and have a final round to go tomorrow. This is a championship golf course that demands presence on every shot. If we execute our plan, we have an opportunity to make a major climb. I know this group is eager for the challenge and we will go out and take advantage of what this course gives us.”
