Fassi No. 3 On ANNIKA Award Watch List

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas junior Maria Fassi begins the spring ranked No. 3 on the ANNIKA Award Watch List, it was announced today.

Fassi has been on the watch list all fall, peaking at No. 1 in the second release of the rankings. She finished the fall in the No. 4 spot.

What They Are Saying
Results: WIN, ANNIKA Intercollegiate Presented by 3M; WIN, Lady Puerto Rico Classic; WIN, Mason Rudolph Championship; T-6, Maryb S. Kauth Invitational; T-11, Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational

The buzz: Fassi earned her third win of the season with a spring-opening triumph at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. She’s also had no poor showings this year. Fassi is third in the rankings as a function of the competition she’s done it against, as she’s played the 81st-toughest schedule this season compared to No. 48 (Stephenson) and No. 10 (Lee). But that third win did push her closer to Stephenson. That second spot could change in the coming weeks depending on how the action shapes out.

The ANNIKA Award Presented by 3M honors the player of the year in women’s college golf, as selected by college golfers, coaches and members of the golf media.

This season, Fassi’s contributions have been nothing short of spectacular. The Hidalgo, Mexico, native leads the team with a 69.60 stroke average through five events. Fassi has three individual wins pacing Arkansas to four team titles in five tournaments. She currently ranks third in the SEC, fourth in the Golfweek.com rankings and fifth in the Golfstat.com rankings.
For her career, the junior has tallied five individual titles, counted more than 90% of her scores toward the team total and paced Arkansas to 15 top-5 finishes, six team titles, two NCAA Regional appearances and one NCAA Championship team appearance.

As an amateur, Fassi picked up her third title in four years at the Campeonato Nacional de Aficionadas 2018 (Mexican Amateur) in Guadalajara, Mexico in January. She has participated in two Walmart NW Arkansas Championships.

Fassi is a two-time selection to the All-Southeastern Conference team and has been on the Arkansas Academic Honor Roll in every semester.
Fassi is the daughter of Andres Fassi and Fabiana and attended UFD High School. She has two older brothers, Sebastian and Juan Pablo, and a younger brother, Fronco.
