BATON ROUGE, La. – The fourth-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team jumped up and down the leaderboard Monday before finishing in second place with a 302 during second round action at the LSU Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The Razorbacks began the day in second place behind third-ranked Duke and often traded places with the Blue Devils during Monday’s play. Monday’s conditions were better than the 30 mile-per-hour winds and 55 degree temperatures teams faced in round one.

Freshman Maria Fassi continued to play well. The Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico, native, moved up four spots and is tied for third place after back-to-back rounds of 74 for a four-over 148. Monday’s round saw the first-year player post one double, four bogies and two birdies in her third career collegiate golf event after she graduated early and joined the team in January.

Fassi is nine strokes behind the leader but only two shots behind the individual runner-up with one round remaining.

Senior Regina Plasencia also moved up four spots in the individual standings shooting 75-75=150. The Guadalajara, Mexico, native, is tied for sixth place overall, along with teammate freshman Cara Gorlei. Gorlei posted rounds of 73-77=150.

Sophomore Alana Uriell moved up to a tie for 27th overall, shooting 78-76=154 and junior Summar Roachell rounded out Arkansas’s day with a score of 77-80=157. Roachell is tied for 44th overall.

Duke leads the field and is 13-over with a 589. The Razorbacks hold on to second place, shooting 601 for the tournament, followed by No. 18 Tennessee with 603. No. 25 Houston and No. 33 North Carolina State are tied for fourth with 608.
