Five Players In Double Figures In Razorback Win

RENO, Nev. – Five players in double figures including a double-double from Alecia Cooley led the University of Arkansas women’s basketball team to a 91-61 win over Memphis at the Nugget Classic on Friday.

Cooley was one rebound shy of a double-double in the first half and finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds in the game. It is the first double-double of the year for the Razorbacks. The win moves Arkansas to 5-0 on the year while Memphis falls to 2-3.

Sophomore Malica Monk led the Razorbacks with 13 points, her second consecutive double figure scoring game. Monk also added a career-best seven round and had four steals in the win. Jessica Jackson scored 10 or more for the fifth consecutive game with 12 points while Aaliyah Wilson and Keiryn Swenson had 10 points each.

Arkansas outrebounded Memphis, 47-18, the largest margin of the year.

Arkansas held Memphis without a field goal for 5:54 in the first quarter to lead 24-11 after 10 minutes of play. The Razorbacks added a three-minute defensive stop over the Tigers in the second frame increasing the lead to 25 at the half.

Key Play – Alecia Cooley
Senior Alecia Cooley was one rebound shy of a double-double in the first half. Cooley finished the first 20 minutes with 10 points and nine rebounds and was key in Arkansas’ 25-point halftime advantage. It is the first time this season Cooley has been in double figures in the first half and the fourth of five games in which she has finished with 10 or more points.

The Razorbacks held a 28-10 rebounding advantage after the first half of play. The 18-rebound margin is the biggest of the season. They added to that mark finishing the game with a 47-18 advantage on the boards. It is the second time Arkansas has collected 47 rebounds (Louisiana-Monroe) and it was a season-best with 19 offensive boards.
