FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Following a standout performance against Northern Illinois, senior defensive end Trey Flowers was named the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week, as announced by the Southeastern Conference Monday. Flowers collected a team-high nine tackles (four solo), 1.0 sack, 2.0 tackles for loss and a forced fumble in Arkansas’ 52-14 rout of the Huskies.
Flowers forced a fumble in the first quarter when he knocked the ball away from NIU quarterback Drew Hare. The ball was recovered by Arkansas’ Darius Philon and returned for a 14-yard score, the first touchdown off a fumble recovery since 2011 against LSU.
The Huntsville, Alabama, native collected his 35th and 36th tackles for loss, widening his lead as the SEC’s all-time active leader. Flowers also moved into a tie for fifth on Arkansas’ all-time tackles for loss chart.
Flowers notched his 13th sack of his career, pegging him second on the SEC’s all-time active charts and tied for 13th in Arkansas history.
The SEC weekly honor is Flowers’ first conference award this season and his third career SEC Defensive Lineman of the week honor. The accolade is the second consecutive weekly conference selection for Arkansas, following running back Alex Collins’ SEC Offensive Player of the week honor on Sept. 15.
The Razorbacks will next travel to AT&T Stadium, in Arlington, Texas, to take on SEC foe Texas A&M in the Southwest Classic, Saturday, Sept. 27. The kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., and will be broadcasted on CBS Sports. Tickets for the classic can be purchased here.
