FAYETTEVILLE – In preparation for Saturday’s open scrimmage, the University of Arkansas’ football team completed the first part of its two-a-days scheduled on Friday morning.
Venue: Outdoor practice fields
Format: Full pads
Highlights: Freshman cornerback Henre Toliver jumped a route during 11-on-11 and nearly came away with an interception, causing some “oohs” and “aahs” from his defensive teammates on the sideline … Later on, Toliver went stride for stride with sophomore wide receiver Drew Morgan on a deep route and came down with an interception … Morgan slipped behind the safeties and came down with a 30-yard reception … With the offense in the shadow of their own goal line, freshmen wide receivers Kendrick Edwards and Jared Cornelius both came down with terrific catches.
Quote of the Day: “This is kind of the dog days of camp this week. It’s a great opportunity for us to develop mental and physical toughness. Guys are sore coming off the last scrimmage, your legs start to get a little bit tired, but with the mental and physical toughness we’ve had, now it’s got to show up and be there on Saturday as well.” – Defensive coordinator Robb Smith (@CoachSmithUA) on the importance of the open scrimmage on Saturday
Defensive line and specialists coach Rory Segrest (@CoachSegrest) on Taiwan Johnson (@TJ_WPS94) adjusting to a starting role:“He’s done well. A lot of guys get that starting role and slack off a little bit but Taiwan has picked his game up even more. It’s important for him to do things the right way and work really hard and we’re expecting big things from him.”
Senior cornerback Carroll Washington (@No_Fly_Zone4) on what propelled him to be a starter this season: “Just being a better student of the game. Getting my playbook each and every day, going over certain things I don’t know. I’m asking questions to my coaches and watching film.”
Senior linebacker Daunte Carr (@Daunte_Carr) on rising up the depth chart: “The depth chart can always change. I take it day by day, I always compete. Whoever is in there at the time is good because we both know the position and we both are always working hard.”
