FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas football team practiced Wednesday afternoon in continued preparation for Saturday’s game against Southern Miss. After practice, defensive coordinator Chris Ash spoke with the media about the potential of the defense in the continuing season.
"There’s development for everyone on this defense," Coach Ash said. "We’ve got potential but I don’t want them to be potential, I want them to be performers. We’ve got a long way to go in terms of development. It’s part of the process but they’re in good shape right now. They’re right on pace to where they should be but we’ve got a long way to go."
Coach Ash also addressed the play of junior safety Alan Turner and plans for him this weekend.
"Alan Turner is going to be our starter," Coach Ash said. "He’s deserved it. He’s been there, played well the past couple of games and he’s getting better every single day. He’s going to be our starter."
Coach Ash spoke highly about the effort put out by the team in practice so far this week.
"I think we’ve had two good days of practice." Coach Ash said. "Yesterday was probably the best Tuesday we’ve had in our three weeks of preparation. Our challenge is to have a good Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and I think today was a step in the right direction."
Kickoff for Saturday’s game vs. Southern Miss inside Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium is set for 11:21 a.m. The game will be nationally televised on SEC TV. For a complete list of affiliates, click here.
