Former Razorbacks Have Great start at Q School

Q School Stage 1 Leaderboard

GARLAND, Texas – Former Razorback Alvaro Ortiz holds a two-shot lead after 27 holes on the opening day of the First Stage of Web.com Tour Qualifying School. Another former Razorback, Kolton Crawford, is currently tied for 17th.

The top 22 and ties will advance to the Second Stage in November.

Ortiz turned in nine birdies – four on the front nine and five n the back – with no bogeys for a 9-under-par 62 to start his day. Not only was his 62 impressive on its own, but it is even more impressive considering his lowest round as a Razorback was carding a 65 – a score he posted three times.

The field started round two, but only played nine holes. Ortiz birdied his first hole (#10) and dropped a shot on his eighth hole (#17) to stand at even par before play was halted. Ortiz has 99 strokes through 27 holes to the lead the field by two as Landon Lyons is at 99 strokes.

Crawford is tied for 17th, tallying 102 strokes through 27 holes, with nine others to stand above the cut line. He opened with a 2-under-par 69. He turned in four birdies and 13 pars through 18 holes. To start the second round, Crawford was 2-under after nine holes thanks to birdies on holes six and seven.

The First Stage is 54 holes total with 27 holes left to be played Friday and concludes with 18 holes Saturday.
