Forsythe Named to Golden Spikes Award Watch List

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas junior third baseman Logan Forsythe was named to USA Baseball’s pre-season Golden Spikes Award Watch List on Tuesday.

The release of the watch list marks USA Baseball’s first step toward identifying the top player in college baseball.

Forsythe is coming off of an outstanding sophomore campaign where he hit a team-best .347 with nine home runs, 18 stolen bases and 55 RBI. His 2007 season with the Diamond Hogs earned him a chance to play for the USA National Team where he proved to be a team leader with a .309 batting average in 28 starts.

The Golden Spikes Watch List features 75 of the nation’s top collegiate players that were nominated by baseball sports information directors across the country.

The watch list will also be “rolling” to ensure that athletes who play themselves into consideration by USA Baseball for the Golden Spikes Award are not ignored. The Golden Spikes Award is sponsored by Major League Baseball, and 2008 marks the 31st installment of the award.

The Southeastern Conference led the way with 15 players across the league earning recognition. The ACC and PAC-10 each have 10 players while the Big 12 has eight nominees.
