FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Four University of Arkansas tennis players have been named to the Southeastern Conference’s Academic Honor Roll, which was released by the SEC on Wednesday.
Seniors Henrik Tofft and Tim Shuler, junior Aleksey Bubis and sophomore Tiago Azevedo performed in the classroom and on the courts for the 25th-ranked Razorbacks.
Shuler, from Schertz, Texas, is 10-8 in singles and 3-0 in doubles this year. The kinesiology major won the deciding match in the 4-3 home victory over South Carolina on April 6.
Tofft, from Falkenberg, Sweden, wasn’t in school in the fall because he is on track to graduate this year. The journalism major is 13-12 this spring and currently ranked No. 79 in the nation.
Azevedo, from San Paulo, Brazil, is 21-13 in singles and 10-6 in doubles. The financial management major is 6-0 playing No. 1 and No. 2 singles.
Bubis, from Palm Harbor, Fla., is 25-10 in singles and 18-9 in doubles. The psychology major is second on the team in singles victories and is 13-4 playing in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth positions. Bubis joins Azevedo, Oskar Johansson (28-8), Oggie Kolev (24-11) and Magnus Kullenberg (21-13) as 20-match winners for the Hogs.
To be eligible to the honor roll, student-athletes must have a 3.0 grade point average for either the past year or for their career, be a sophomore or higher in academic classification and have 24 semester hours countable towards a degree.
The 2001 honor roll is based on grades from the 1999-2000 academic year.
