FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas’ gymnastics team held its fourth intrasquad meet of the fall over the weekend as the Razorbacks continue preparing for the 2011 season.
Co-head coaches Mark and René Cook went with a full lineup on all four events in the Sunday afternoon practice meet, which was held in the Huntley Training Facility in the Lewis Center.
"The intrasquads are real competition for us," René Cook says. "We approach them like an actual meet to get ready for the season, and we’re continuing to make progress. Our depth is much better this year. We’re able to put a full lineup on the floor for each event. The depth makes the performance in the intrasquads even more valuable. We are evaluating each intrasquad to help determine our lineups for competition in January."
The Razorbacks are led by a pair of All-Americans in junior Jaime Pisani and senior Michelle Stout. Other returnees are senior Stacy Bartlett, juniors Mariah Howdeshell and Genny Salvatore, and sophomores Natalie Bohonsky, Amy Borsellino, Kelci Lewis and Amanda Siebert.
Newcomers include sophomore transfer Jordan Salsberg, and freshmen Katherine Grable, Shelby Salmon, Scarlett Williams and Bailee Zumwalde.
Arkansas finished 11th in the nation in 2010 and has ranked among the final top 15 six consecutive seasons. In eight years of existence, Arkansas has earned an NCAA Regional bid seven straight years and advanced to the NCAA Championship four times, including three straight years.
Arkansas opens the season on Jan. 7 at Oklahoma. The home-opener is Feb. 14 in Barnhill Arena against Alabama.
