FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Freshman guards Eric Ferguson and Kendrick Davis combined for 35 points and senior forward Dionisio Gomez recorded a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds to pace the White team to a 72-49 victory over the Red squad in Arkansas’ annual Red-White Game Friday at Bud Walton Arena. The White team shot 33 percent in the first half and led 31-28 at the break with the Red team shooting just 30 percent in the first period. In the second half, the White team shot 50 percent, 19 of 38, out rebounded the Red 26-15 and had just seven turnovers in pulling away. Ferguson, a freshman from Long Island, N.Y., hit eight of 16 shots and finished with 20 points, four rebounds, five assists and four steals. Davis, a freshman from Houston, Texas, had 15 points on six of 18 shooting, seven rebounds and two assists. Gomez was nine of 14 from the field and had nine of his 14 rebounds on the offensive end. Michael Jones hit two free throws early in the second period to pull the Red within 31-30, but the White team scored 12 straight points and 21 of the next 23 to take a 52-32 lead with 13:38 to go. Ferguson had seven points in the run and Larry Satchell, who had 11 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots, had six. Freshman Wenbos Mukubu had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Red team while senior forward Alonzo Lane had 10 points and nine boards. The Red team shot 30.5 percent for the game and had 20 turnovers. The White shot 41.6 percent. Arkansas plays host to Athletes in Action Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the first of two exhibition games this year.
