Garrison Begins U.S. Open With Solid 200 Fly Finish

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Senior Jessie Garrison opened up the 2017 U.S. Open Swimming Championships in New York on Wednesday with an impressive finish in the 200 butterfly.

Garrison clocked a 2:15.08 in the B-final for a fifth-place finish in the heat, 13th overall in a 57-swimmer field. To advance to the B-final, the Little Rock native swam long course personal best 2:14.98 to finish 15th in the prelims.

“Jessie did a nice job this morning to make it into the B-final,” said head coach Neil Harper. “She moved up to fifth place and raced well. She has two more events this week so we are looking for similar success.”

Juniors Sydney Angell and Madison Strathman will continue competition tomorrow morning with the 200 breast prelims.
