Garza Lands Freshman Of The Week Honors

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas rookie Luis Garza continued his stellar play on Monday at the Southern Intercollegiate, finishing T-8th overall to earn Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honors the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon.

He becomes the second Razorback to earn weekly honors from the league this spring after Charles Kim was named SEC Golfer of the Week on Feb. 22 following his victory at the SunTrust Gator Invitational. Arkansas is the only program in the league to earn multiple weekly awards this year.

Luis Garza has been one of the most consistent freshman in the league this season with seven top-20 finishes in nine starts, including his third top-10 showing of the year on Monday with rounds of 70-71 – 141 (-3) at the Southern Intercollegiate in Athens, Georgia.

The Leon, Mexico, native has the third-best freshman scoring average in the SEC at 71.7 to help lead No. 24 Arkansas to an 84-31 head-to-head record this year with two team victories. Garza is tied for the best finish this year in the SEC by a rookie, posting a runner-up finish at the Gopher Individual in the fall.

Garza and the Razorbacks return to the course on Sunday, March 19 for a three-day event at the Valspar Collegiate in Palm City, Florida.
