FAYETTEVILLE – Day two of the 2011 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships featured current Razorbacks Regina George and Danielle Nowell in the 400 meters and junior pole vault, respectively. George ran to a time of 53.97 to finish 15th overall in the semifinal heats of the 400 meters. She will not advance to Saturday’s event final. The national meet runs through Sunday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
In the junior pole vault competition, Nowell finished tied for 12th place with a day’s best clearance of 12-5.5. She was one of 10 competitors in the field with a final clearance of 12-5.5 and her place was determined by number of misses. Soon-to-be Razorback freshman Ariel Voskamp also cleared 12-5.5 and finished tied for fifth place with one less miss than Nowell.
In other results by former Arkansas runners, LaShaunte’a Moore finished fourth in the finals of the 100 meters with a time of 11.04. She advanced to the final after qualifying seventh (11.17) during the semifinal heats earlier in the day. Jessica Cousins finished 12th overall in the semifinals of the 400 meters with a time of 53.23 and will not advance to the final.
Former Razorback distance standout Amy Yoder Begley was scheduled to compete Friday in the 5,000 meters final but did not start. Late Thursday night, on the opening day of the national meet, Yoder Begley ran to a sixth-place finish and a time of 32:34.75 in the finals of the 10,000 meters.
