George qualifies for World Juniors

FAYETTEVILLE – Select current and former members of the Arkansas Razorback men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the USA Championships, in Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday.

Freshman Regina George finished second in the finals of the junior 400 meters. She clocked a time of 52.80 to earn a spot on Team USA at the World Junior Championships in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, in July.

"Regina has had a phenomenal season but it’s not over yet," head coach Lance Harter said. "She’s earned a spot at the World Junior meet and this is another chance for her to show off her great talents. She’s had a long season but she’ll get some time to rest and I think she’ll take great advantage of this opportunity."

Former Razorback Christin Wurth-Thomas finished fourth in the finals of the 1,500 meters. She clocked a time of 4:15.33. Women’s track and field volunteer assistant coach Monica Hargrove finished fourth in the finals of the 400 meters. She ran a time of 51.16.

Former Razorback Wallace Spearmon, Jr. competed in the prelims of the 200 meters. He won his heat and finished fourth overall with a time of 21.05. He will run in Sunday’s semifinals.

Competition for the Razorbacks will resume at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
