Georgia Postgame Notes . . . @ Arkansas Sept. 19, 2009Another SEC Road Win: With tonight’s 52-41 win, Georgia (2-1 overall, 2-0 SEC) improved to 25-4 in SEC opponent stadiums under Mark Richt including six straight wins dating back to 2007. Overall, Georgia is 31-5 in opponent stadiums under Richt. Also, Georgia is now 9-3 in the series with Arkansas including winning the past six meetings. Overall, Georgia is 4-0 all-time in Fayetteville. They are 5-0 against the Razorbacks under Richt.SEC 2-Game Point Total Of 93: Georgia beat South Carolina 41-37 last week and tonight outlasted Arkansas 52-41. The two-game SEC total of 93 points is the most since 2004 in two SEC games since Georgia combined to score 93 points in wins over Florida (31-24) and Kentucky (62-17).Cox Tossing TDs: Senior QB Joe Cox tied a school record with 5 TD passes. He had a career night, going 18- for-26 for 375 yards and 5 TDs. Cox tied a school record shared by Matthew Stafford (Ga. Tech 2008), D.J. Shockley (Boise State 2005) and David Greene (LSU 2004) with 5 TD passes in a game. Meanwhile, Razorback QB Ryan Mallett tied a school mark for Most TD passes by an opposing QB with five. Florida’s Danny Wuerffel had five versus the Bulldogs in 1995 in Athens.Long Distance TD For Samuel: Sophomore TB Richard Samuel scampered a career-long 80 yards for a TD in the second quarter to make it 21-17. It was the longest rushing TD for a Bulldog since 2007 when Knowshon Moreno went 80 yards versus Troy. It was the longest rushing TD by a Bulldog in an SEC game since 1997 when Robert Edwards went 80 yards versus Kentucky. Samuel had his first career 100-yard game, tallying 104 yards on 16 carries.Catching TDs: Sophomore Aron White’s 21-yard TD catch tied the game at 7-all at the 9:56 mark of the first quarter. It was his fifth career catch and three have been for touchdowns. It was his lone catch tonight. Sophomore A.J. Green snagged a 25-yard TD to put Georgia in front 24-21 with 1:51 left in the first half. It was Georgia’s first lead of the night. It capped a 10-play, 75-yard drive that lasted 7:11. He got another one in the fourth quarter. Georgia’s longest TD-drive last year was 6:24 (14 plays, 78 yards at #11 LSU). Thanks to a 37-yard field goal by sophomore Blair Walsh as time expired, Georgia extended its halftime lead to 27-21. Redshirt freshman Tavarres King caught his first career TD, a career-long 50-yarder that gave the Bulldogs a 34-28 lead with 7:51 left in the third quarter. Freshman Orson Charles caught his first career TD, a 44-yard strike from Joe Cox. Then, Cox connected with Green for a two-point conversion and a 42-35 lead with 4:34 left in the third. It was the first one since Matthew Stafford connected with Kris Durham vs. South Carolina last year.Green Goes Over 100 Again: Sophomore A.J. Green (7-for-137, 2 TDs) had his 3rd career game with 100+ yards receiving and first this year. Last year, he had a career-high 159 vs. Arizona State and 132 against Vanderbilt. He had a career-high 2 TD catches today and finished with 137 yards on seven catches.Butler Booms It Again: Redshirt sophomore P Drew Butler, who leads the SEC in punting, had another big night. He averaged 55.2 yards on four punts including a 64-yarder than pinned UA at their own nine with 5:25 left in the contest and Georgia leading 49-41. Three of his punts were inside the 20 and three covered 50+ yards. At #9 Oklahoma State in the season opener, Butler registered a 57.0 average, the second best in school history.Points Off Turnovers: Arkansas scored 14 points off two Bulldog Fumbles and an Interception. The first came when Prince Miller muffed a punt return that was recovered at the Georgia 34. The second came when Richard Samuel dropped a pitch from Joe Cox and was recovered at the Georgia 30. The INT came in the 2nd quarter and UA got the ball on their 22 following two personal foul penalties. It led to a punt. Opponents have scored 40 points off 9 Bulldog turnovers this season. The Bulldogs have allowed 102 points total.The Bulldogs got 3 points off one Arkansas fumble. Georgia sacked QB Ryan Mallet and forced a fumble, caused by Demarcus Dobbs, that was recovered by Rennie Curran. It led to a 35-yard field goal. Georgia has six points off two turnovers this season.Starters: Redshirt sophomore DE Justin Houston returned from a two-game suspension and started in place of senior Rod Battle who went down with a torn ACL in last week’s win over South Carolina. It was Houston’s second career start.Injury Report: Senior reserve FB Justin Fields injured his right shoulder in the first quarter and did not return. Junior SCB Vance Cuff injured his right knee in the third quarter and did not return. Up Next: Georgia (2-1, 2-0 SEC) returns home for a nonconference matchup with Arizona State on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. on ESPU. The Bulldogs went to Tempe last season and registered a 27-10 win in the first-ever meeting between the schools.
