Getting to know the senior from Victoria, Texas, Amanda Caldwell…
Q: Why did you choose to play at the University of Arkansas?A: "I was first attracted after I was recruited to play here during high school. Then, I researched the school and was impressed by the university’s business program, which has a great reputation. But it was the tradition of Razorback athletics that was the biggest selling point of coming here!"
Q: How did it feel to hit your first career grand slam a month ago?A: "It was a great feeling! It was a good moment for me. I was happy to come in and contribute and that my family was able to watch it on television, as well as others who usually would not have the opportunity to see our team play. It was so exciting and such a big deal because it’s a pretty rare thing."
Q: What is your primary goal for this season?A: "To see our team finish strong and for us to give it all that we have, even though things haven’t been going our way this season. Personally, I would like to encourage my teammates to do well. That’s an even bigger role for me now that I’m hurt."
Q: Off the field, what are your future ambitions?A: "I would love to continue working with sports, and pursue interests in the business field. I am very passionate about participation in community service, serving as a mentor and role model for young women. I hope to pursue a lot of things that I have been involved in and became passionate about here at Arkansas."
Q: What lessons have you taken from your softball career that might help you in the future as you are getting ready to graduate?A: "Perseverance and time management are a huge deal in sports, as well as the importance of teamwork and being able to find a way to work with and motivate different personalities, which will be instrumental in my career and life."
Q: Outside of softball, what motivates you in life?A: "Living passionately is something I’ve tried to do and is definitely important, as well as being honest, having integrity and showing compassion."
