FAYETTEVILLE — The University of Arkansas women’s golf team is in the midst of the spring championship schedule. Two events are in the books and the fourth-ranked Razorbacks are looking ahead to LSU next weekend. We pause this week to get to know one of the team members just a little bit better. Hope you enjoy this Q&A with sophomore Regina Plasencia.
What is your favorite club or golf shot and why? I actually don’t have a favorite club, but my favorite shot is the flop. I am very good at making the ball land soft or have some spin on the green. Whenever I have it, I can just picture it going in the hole.
What is your favorite hole to play at Blessings and why? I really like hole number 16. It is a short par-5 that gives you the opportunity for birdie or an eagle. You have to be agressive on your tee shot, have good distance control on your approach shot because the green is not very deep, and you must pay attention to the slopes on the green. And above all, it has a great view.
What makes the University of Arkansas and the Razorback women’s golf team special? There are so many things that I love about this place and the team. To name a few, the team chemistry that we have is unbelievable. We have become a family: we have fun, we push each other to work hard, and we know that we have each other and Mike and Shauna for anything we need.
What is something not very many people know about you? I did gymnastics for eight years growing up and I never thought I would love golf as much as I do now.
What would you do if you didn’t play golf? If I didn’t play golf, I would probably be back home playing another sport. I can’t imagine my life without competing.
What are your plans after graduation/what is your major? I’m an International Relations Major, but I plan to turn pro and continue my life around golf.
