FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas track and field squad gained another provisional qualifier for the NCAA Championships on Thursday when Razorback junior and Pine Bluff native Sam Glover won his heat in the 400-meter hurdles in 50.32 at the Drake Relays in Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
Glover, who improved on his provisional mark from last weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays, keeps the Razorback provisional qualifiers at eight in nine events. Glover will look to become the fifth Razorback to meet the automatic qualifying standard on Friday when he competes in the 400-meter hurdles’ finals.
“Sam ran a good race,” UA head coach John McDonnell said. “He was not an automatic qualifier but with that time he should definitely get in. Tomorrow will be a big day for us running the 4xmile, 4×100, 4×200 and 4×800-meter relays. Everything gets cranked up tomorrow and we have got to be ready to go. The guys have to run a little better than they did today.”
On Friday, the Hogs will look to bring home several relay titles. Ryan Travis, Sharif Karie, Daniel Lincoln and Murray Link will run the 4xmile relay. The 400-meter and 800-meter relay teams will be made up of Baker, Glover, Maurice Robinson and Chandun O’Neal. Andrew Beasley, Frans Schimper, Chris Mulvaney and Chad Grundy will compete on the 4×800-meter relay team.
Also on Friday, Eddie Jackson and Sean Lightfoot will run in the 110-meter hurdle preliminaries, Jason Ward and Richard Smith will compete in the long jump and Lloyd Meeks will compete in the discus throw.
