HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – University of Arkansas sophomore Cara Gorlei went low and sophomore Maria Fassi was the top finisher leading the No. 12 Razorbacks to an 11th-place finish at the Sixth Annual Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina on Sunday.

Gorlei posted the best round of the day with a two-over 73 while Fassi led Arkansas wire-to-wire finishing tied for 17th overall shooting (72–72–76) 220 at the Long Cove Club course.

Fassi played the par-3 holes 1-under for the tournament and tied for fifth with 10 birdies for the weekend. As a team, Arkansas played the par-3 holes well, averaging 3.13 strokes per hole and were even better on the par-5 holes finishing second in the tournament averaging 4.91 on the long holes.

The final round saw Gorlei count four birdies and she was the only Razorback with a birdie, two in fact, on the front side of the golf course.

Arkansas continues the season March 24-26 at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic followed by the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic April 7-9 before postseason play begins.

“This was a national championship field and the first day we put ourselves in a big hole,” head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said. “Starting behind makes it tough to really make a move in this field. We walk away with some areas to really work on before we head to LSU in two weeks. It’s early in the spring so we will train so that we focus on getting better everyday so that we are most ready when postseason play begins.”
