FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas senior gymnast Katie Hardman is expected to miss the first meet of the 2006 season, Gym’Back co-head coach Mark Cook announced Friday.
One of five seniors on this year’s team, Hardman had surgery on her right knee to repair some meniscus damage at the conclusion of last season. The Buda, Texas, native experienced additional discomfort after completing her rehabilitation and underwent a second surgery this week.
“Katie is a great competitor,” said co-head coach Mark Cook. “We know she’s going to work hard in rehab and get back as quickly as it is medically feasible. Katie would not have made it through the season with the pain she was experiencing. We’ll miss her when we open the season but I’m confident she’ll get back into the lineup soon.”
Hardman and the Gym’Backs open the 2006 season Jan. 3, in Honolulu, Hawai’i, at the Collegiate Women’s Invitational.
