Co-Head Coach Mark Cook gives his thoughts on the Auburn meet.We just returned from Auburn after winning a very close meet. Contrary to the hype about a ‘rivalry’, both teams were very cordial and respectful of one another. Even though both teams were determined to win, there was still a sense of comradery. We thank Auburn for hosting a great competition. Yes, we are all competitive, but the coaches and the athletes should respect and honor their sport. On another note: So far, it has been a very fun year…watching the team grow and work so well together. These girls are awesome! After starting this program several years ago, it its interesting to look back and see how far we have come in such a short time. It’s not just about the gymnastics, but the character and the identity of the program. We are now starting tosee the grit, maturity, and tenacity that is necessary to compete with the top teams in the country. It is also quite rewarding to see your athletes learning new skills, and performing the best gymnastics of their careers. It is a tribute to the fine coaching they received prior to coming to college, as well as the daily competitive atmosphere within the collegiate ranks. As a former club coach for over 16 years, I always wanted my athletes to go on to college and continue to improve. I feel most of our teams former coaches would be very proud of their girls, and how hard they have workedto make those improvements. This Friday will be a huge opportunity for us to show both our fans and Georgia how far we have come. We are looking forward to our first home meet of the season! We are the GymBacks, committed to being the best that we can be!Mark
