He Said, She Said

He Said, She Said is a continuing diary from the Coaches Cook. Find out what’s going on with the team on an ongoing basis.

She Said… March 18, 2008 The coach-athlete relationship is one that is quite complex. There are times when the two parties must be at odds with one another. Other times the two parties must be so intimate that the two can read each others minds and predict each others actions. In collegiate sports, the student-athlete is trying to achieve athletic success while obtaining a degree that will prepare them for their future career. Along with these two tasks, each student-athlete is also growing and maturing to find out who they are and what they hope to become. It is a very stressful but completely enjoyable time of life. As we approach our third senior night, I mention these topics because my personal relationship with both Sam and Emily has touched on every human emotion. I’m sure they both would concur. Since coming on campus, they have both struggled through difficult times and have soared to the greatest heights. I am completely honored I have been here to experience them all. Since starting this program, there are so many who have made an impact. Still, Sam and Emily have contributed so much that I will never forget them. More importantly, I respect them: their dedication and their passion. Whatever they are asked to do, they do with a smile and with positive intent. From organizing team cardio to working clinics in our gym, Sam and Emily represent the epitome of leadership. Furthermore, they are both great friends to their teammates. I know it is because of their integrity that our team has shown such success this season. This Senior Night I will celebrate their successes. “Success is a direct reflection of the effort, pride and passion with which a person lives” (www.successories.com). As their careers near their completion I can say, without hesitation, that Sam and Emily have given their full effort and have immeasurable pride and passion, therefore could not have had a more successful collegiate career. Sam and Emily, thank you for touching my life in such a positive and influential way. You not only have made an instrumental impact on this program, you have truly made an impact on my life for years to come. GYBACKS ROCK….YOU KNOW
