Harriers travel to San Diego

FAYETTEVILLE – The eighth-ranked University of Arkansas Lady Razorback cross country team takes its show on the road for the first time this season when it travels to San Diego, Calif., to participate in the Aztec Invitational at Balboa Park on Saturday morning.

Arkansas is no stranger to the San Diego State hosted Aztec Invitational having competed in the meet last season. In that race, Christine Kalmer led Arkansas with a fourth-place overall finish and watched four teammates finish among the top 10 runners as the Lady Razorbacks cruised to their second team victory in as many races.

“Typically, the Aztec Invitational has brought some very good teams in to compete,” Arkansas head coach Lance Harter said. “This will be our first race at 5,000 meters so it will be a challenge, but I am confident that we will be fine despite the distance. As a team we have been training very well and if run like we did last week, we should be all right.”

The Lady Razorbacks are a young team in 2006 with a quartet of sophomores leading the way. At the Fayetteville Invitational last weekend, Arkansas placed those four second-year runners among their top seven along with a trio of freshmen. The Lady’Backs will have 12 runners competing at the Aztec.
