Harris named third-team SoccerBuzz

FAYETTEVILLE – The post season awards continue for senior Allison Harris of the University of Arkansas Lady Razorback soccer team as she was named SoccerBuzz third-team all-central region by the online magazine in their announcement of annual awards.

Harris’ honor is just the fourth SocceBuzz third team award in Arkansas history as she follows in the footsteps of fellow defender Devon Burger (2006), forward Julie Williford (2003) and midfielder Mandy Komar (2000).

“Allison is very deserving of this honor,” Arkansas head coach Gordon Henderson said. “Sometimes it is difficult for a defender to get the recognition that they deserve especially if they don’t score a lot of goals. Allison’s multiple awards this season are a direct result of her hard work for five years and proof that scoring goals is only part of the equation.”

Along with her third-team SoccerBuzz honor, Harris was named second-team all-SEC, the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, first team ESPN The Magazine Academic all-District VI and second-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America in 2007. Prior to the 2007 season she had been named third-team ESPN The Magazine Academic all-America (2006) and two time ESPN The Magazine academic all-district.

If her awards were not enough, Harris also ended her Lady Razorback career as the first soccer player in the team’s 21-year history to complete her academic career with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Harris posted nine semesters of straight A’s earning her degree in psychology in December. Her next goal is to earn a graduate internship and degree.

The Lady Razorback soccer team begins its spring training after the New Year and will have a limited lineup of contests beginning in March. For more information about Lady Razorback soccer or about Arkansas women’s athletics, please go to www.ladybacks.com.
