Harter, Razorbacks Ready To Attack 2018

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – 2017 SEC women’s cross country coach of the year Lance Harter announced the 2018 Arkansas women’s cross country schedule that includes eight meets in six states capped by the NCAA Championships hosted by the University of Wisconsin.

The Arkansas women’s cross country team will kick off another strong season, opening up on Sept. 1 at the Hurricane Invitational in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Following the season-opening meet, Arkansas will travel north on I-49 to Joplin, Mo. for the Missouri Southern Invite on Sept. 15.

Fans will get a chance to see the Razorbacks race at home this year, as Harter’s squad looks to defend their title at the 30th Annual Chile Pepper Festival on Sept. 22 at Agri Park in Fayetteville.

The following week, Arkansas heads north to the site of this year’s NCAA Championships on Sept. 14 to take part in the Badger Open hosted by the University of Wisconsin. This will be the first of potentially three trips to ‘The Badger State’ for the Razorbacks who will also compete at Wisconsin’s Pre-Nats Meet (Oct. 13) and the NCAA Championships (Nov. 17)

The postseason competition will kick off with the SEC Championships in Auburn, Ala. on Oct. 26. Arkansas will then travel to College Station, Texas on Nov. 9 for the NCAA South Central Region Championships before closing out the season, as previously mentioned, on Nov. 17 in Madison at the NCAA Championships.

“We are very excited about the upcoming season as we have nine of our top-11 returning from last year,” said Harter. “With the experience we gained in 2017, and the development that occurred during the indoor and outdoor track seasons, our depth and front-running capabilities provide an opportunity to be very optimistic. Adding to our returning veterans, we are elated to have two freshmen (Katrina Robinson and Quinn Owen) that can immediately contribute to our scoring five.”

Amongst the list of returning veterans is last year’s SEC Freshman of the Year, Lauren Gregory, along with First-Team All-SEC cross country honorees Taylor Werner, Carina Viljoen, and Second-Team All-SEC selection Ashton Endsley.

“Our schedule this season is designed to have us in top form at the SEC, NCAA Regional, and National Championships,” Harter finished.

Last year’s squad captured a fifth-straight SEC, and seventh-straight South Central Regional title en route to a 13th-place finish at the NCAA meet in Louisville, Ky.
