FAYETTEVILLE – On the heels of the team’s tournament title at the Golden Hurricane Classic in Tulsa, the University of Arkansas volleyball team received three all-tournament accolades. Junior Meredith Hays was named the event’s Most Valuable Player while seniors Emily Helm and Raymariely Santos earned spots on the All-Tournament Team. The Razorbacks posted a 2-1 record during the weekend to claim their second non-conference title of the season.
Hays paced Arkansas with 50 kills over three matches, including a 21-kill performance against Tulsa in the tournament opener. She also added 13 digs against the Golden Hurricane to complete her second double-double of the season. During the three-match tournament, Hays averaged 5.00 kills per set and 2.20 digs per set.
In the weekend’s first match, Santos became just the fourth player in program history-and first since the 2004 season-to register a triple-double when she tallied 13 kills, 26 assists and 11 digs against Tulsa. She followed with a double-double effort in the Razorbacks’ straight-set win over Northern Colorado. Helm led the team’s floor defense with 3.60 digs per set and had 21 digs in Arkansas’ four-set win over host Tulsa.
Arkansas returns to Fayetteville for the Razorback Invitational this weekend, hosting Kansas State, Saint Louis and South Alabama at Barnhill Arena. The Razorbacks’ first match of the tournament is set for Friday at 7 p.m. (CT) against K-State, a team that played in last year’s NCAA Tournament.
