FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Gordon Henderson has resigned his position as head coach of the University of Arkansas Razorback soccer team it was announced by Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long on Thursday.
“It truly has been a pleasure to be able to lead such a fantastic group of women for the last five years,” Henderson said. “I feel comfortable that the student-athletes in the program will take it forward to bigger and better things. I wish the players and the University of Arkansas the best of luck in the future.”
Henderson recently completed his fifth season at Arkansas. The Razorbacks compiled a 41-49-5 record in his five seasons. Arkansas finished 11-8 this season, including a school-record 9-1 start. The Razorbacks finished 4-7 in Southeastern Conference play, but failed to qualify for the SEC Tournament. Arkansas’ last appearance in the conference tournament came during the 2000 season.
“We appreciate the contributions that Coach Henderson made to our soccer program during his tenure,” Long said. “He and his staff have worked hard to move the program forward. We wish Gordon the best in his future endeavors on and off the field.
“As we move forward in our soccer program, our goals remain the same, to compete at the top of the SEC and to qualify for the SEC Tournament and by doing so qualify for NCAA postseason competition. We remain focused on those competitive goals while developing our student-athletes athletically, academically and socially.”
Long announced that the search for Henderson’s replacement will begin immediately.
