Hog Tennis Team Falls to No. 9 Washington, 4-3
HONOLULU, Hawaii – Washington won four of the six singles matches as the No. 9 Huskies held off No. 29 Arkansas, 4-3, in a tennis match completed late Wednesday.

Arkansas (11-6) won the top two doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead, but Oggie Kolev and Aleksey Bubis recorded the only singles victories for the Razorbacks, both in three sets.

Two of Washington’s wins came in three sets, including at No. 1 where Matt Hanlin defeated top-ranked Oskar Johansson, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5, dropping Johansson to 25-6.

UW’s Andrej Bizjak slipped by Henrik Tofft at No. 2, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5; Jeremy Berman beat Magnus Kullenberg at No. 3, 6-2, 6-2; and Ari Strasberg defeated Tiago Azevedo at No. 5, 6-3, 6-3.

Kolev won at No. 4, 5-7, 7-5, 6-1, over Andy Posavac to pick up his 20th win of the year (20-9) while Bubis won at No. 6, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, over Marius Lunde to improve to 23-7.

Johansson and Tofft beat Berman and Posavac at No. 1 doubles, 8-4, while Bubis and Kolev improved to 10-2 after getting by Strasberg and Dillion Ruby at No. 2, 9-7.

“We got off to a good start by taking the doubles point,” UA head coach Robert Cox said. “We just couldn’t get one more win in singles to win the match. We’ve been playing well but we’ve lost some tough matches. We have to re-group and hopefully pull out the next one.”

Arkansas’ last three losses have been by 4-3 scores, all to ranked teams, including No. 9 Washington, No. 6 Tennessee and No. 26 LSU. The Razorbacks, who beat Hawaii, 7-0, on Tuesday, are 3-6 against ranked teams this year and close the year with matches against six more ranked opponents.

The Hogs play next at No. 39 Tulane on March 28 and at No. 18 Mississippi State on March 31 before playing host to No. 40 South Carolina on April 6.
