Hog Netters Open 2006 Fall Season This Weekend

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Three Arkansas tennis players head to Athens, Ga. this weekend for the Southern Intercollegiate in the opening tournament of the Razorbacks’ fall schedule.

Senior Andrei Nicoara, junior Colin Mascall and freshman Gabriel Mattos will open play for the Hogs Friday. Nicoara was 4-5 a year ago, playing only in fall matches and missing the spring with a foot injury. Mascall was a solid No. 5 for head coach Robert Cox in the spring, posting a 12-11 overall record as well as going 5-5 in the Southeastern Conference. Mattos will be making his collegiate debut.

Friday marks the beginning of Cox’s 20th season at the helm of the Razorback program. He is the all-time wins leader at Arkansas with 247, and has guided the Hogs to nine NCAA Tournament appearances and 12 top 40 final rankings by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

In 2006, Arkansas reached the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in six years, and advanced to the second round for the sixth time in its’ past seven appearances.
