Hog swimmers complete successful Grand Prix

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Four swimmers from the No. 47 University of Arkansas swimming and diving squad closed out their weekend at the Missouri Grand Prix on Monday, swimming in the 50 fly and 1,500 free at the Mizzou Aquatics Center.The Razorbacks (10-1, 3-1) morning started with senior Emily Fletcher competing in the 50 long course meter butterfly. Fletcher finished out her Arkansas career with a time of 31.44 seconds in the 50 fly, in eleventh place.

“As a coach you want to see your seniors go out in a special way,” Arkansas assistant coach Todd Mann said. “Emily was very solid from start to finish this weekend. She definitely went out in a special way.”

The final event of the meet for the Razorbacks was the 1,500 free, another long course meter race in which freshmen Sarah Howard and Maddie Fogel competed alongside sophomore Shara Sutphen. In the event, won by 2008 Olympian Chloe Sutton, Howard placed third with a time of 17:25.91. Sutphen was close behind in fifth place with a time of 17:33.96 and Fogel placed sixteenth in a time of 18:30.42.

“It was nice to see two of our swimmers score in the distance freestyle,” Mann said. “It was a good way to finish the meet.”

On Monday, 22 members of the Razorback squad left for Auburn, Ala. where they will compete at the Southeastern Conference Championships which runs Wednesday Feb. 18 through Saturday Feb. 21. For updated and complete coverage of ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
