Hog Tennis Wins 10th of the Season Beats Hawaii 4-3

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – For the second time this season, Dmitry Lebedev won the last match on court to clinch a Razorback win as No. 33 Arkansas beat Hawaii, 4-3, in Honolulu, Hi, for its third-straight win. The sophomore netter won his 10th match in a row in beating Jeff Fitch, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 4 singles to seal the Arkansas dual victory. Lebedev improves to 18-6, while the Razorbacks’ win pushes their season total to ten.

“We’ve definitely gotten better this week,” head coach Robert Cox said. “To beat a very talented Hawaii team at their place says a lot about how we played, so I’m very proud of how our guys handled such a tough match.”

Arkansas (10-6, 2-2) took an early lead by earning the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. At No. 2 doubles, Blake Strode and Taylor King picked up an 8-4 win over Fitch and Dennis Lajola. Lebedev and Matt Hogan beat Spence Mendoza and Craig Faulk, 8-4, at the third spot. Hawaii won at the top doubles position as Sascha Heinemann and Andreas Weber defeated Colin Mascall and Tyler Tarnasky, 8-3.

Along with the doubles point and Lebedev’s win at No. 4 singles, the Razorbacks also claimed singles victories from Chris Nott and Bradwin Williams at the five and six spots, respectively. Nott defeated Faulk in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0 and Williams picked up his 16th win of the season with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Mendoza.

The Rainbow Warriors (2-8) claimed victories at the top three singles positions. Lajola defeated Strode, 6-2, 6-1 and No. 123 Weber topped Mascall in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3. Freshman Matt Hogan dropped a 7-5, 6-2 decision to Heinemann at No. 3 singles.

Arkansas will face BYU-Hawaii, the 25th-ranked team in Division II, in its next match. Monday’s first serve on the Seasiders’ home court is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT. Log on to www.hogwired.com for complete results.
