Hogan finishes weekend with win

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — On the final day of the Virginia 1-Plus-1 men’s tennis tournament, Arkansas senior Matthew Hogan won the consolation bracket of the A-3 singles flight and now returns home after going 3-1 in singles play. Senior Chris Nott was also scheduled to play in a third-place match of the A-2 singles flight, but was cancelled because of bad weather earlier in the day.

“Both of the seniors improved greatly after this weekend,” said head coach Robert Cox. “With Matt (Hogan) going 3-1 in singles and Chris (Nott) going 2-1 against some of the top talent in the country, it was exactly what you could ask for.”

Hogan’s final match of the weekend came against William Parker of North Carolina. Both had won two straight matches beforehand to reach the finals of the A-3 singles consolation. After winning the first set 6-2, Hogan had a tougher second set, but still pulled out the straight set victory 7-5.

With the win, both Razorback players compiled a 7-3 record throughout doubles and singles matches. The men’s tennis team’s next tournament comes at the ITA All-American Tournament in Tulsa Okla., which is scheduled to begin next Friday.
