Hogs Add McConnell to List of Early Signees
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas’ list of early baseball signees increased to seven Wednesday with head coach Norm DeBriyn’s receipt of a national letter-of-intent from Kirk McConnell of Magnolia (Ark.) High School.

A 5-9, 150-pound outfielder, McConnell batted .565 with six home runs and 36 RBI as a junior last year en route to all-conference honors and was named to the all-state tournament team. “Kirk is a scrappy player with good instincts,” UA assistant coach Tim Montez said. “He’ll push for a starting job as a freshman in 2002.”

McConnell is the younger brother of former Razorback second baseman Jason McConnell who lettered for the Hogs from 1995-97.

Arkansas does not expect to receive any more letters-of-intent from the Nov. 8-15 early signing period. The Razorbacks will add to this group during the NCAA baseball late signing period which spans from April 11 through Aug. 1.

UA will open the 2001 season Sunday, Feb. 4, when it hosts Missouri Southern at Baum Stadium.
