Hogs Begin Play At Southern Intercollegiate

ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Arkansas men’s tennis team opened its fall season Friday at the Southern Intercollegiate in Athens, Georgia. The day saw nationally-ranked Mike Redlicki and Jose Salazar hold serve, winning both of their singles matches and advancing to Saturday’s Round of 16 in Division I singles.

Johan den Toom and Adam Sanjurjo also picked up wins in Division I singles, while Jacob Herndon also picked up a win in Division II singles. Sanjurjo defeated Clemson’s Alex Favrot, the No. 15 seed in the tournament and the No. 64 player in the nation.

“We’re eager to get started this fall,” head coach Andy Jackson said. “We’re in a preparation phase before the season starts in January. The national championships are going to be in Athens, so we’re hoping to start and finish the season at the same place. It’s exciting to get started.”

Redlicki, the top seed in the tournament and the No. 11 player in the nation, will face the winner of No. 12-seeded Max Tchoutakian (Baylor) and McClain Kessler (Florida), while Salazar, the No. 9 seed and No. 45 player in the nation, will face Florida’s Alfredo Perez, the No. 6 seed in the tournament.

Doubles play will also begin Saturday at the Southern Intercollegiate. The Razorbacks have two doubles teams in both the Division I and Division II doubles draws, including Mike Redlicki and Adam Sanjurjo, the No. 4 seed in the Division I doubles draw and the No. 32 doubles team in the nation.

Results will be posted at the conclusion of each day throughout the weekend.
