Hogs Begin Putting All the Pieces Together as

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt worked his squad in shorts and shoulder pads twice on Thursday as the Hogs continue preparations for their season opener on Aug. 30 against UNLV in Little Rock, Ark.
The Razorbacks worked for about an hour and a half inside the Walker Pavilion in the morning before staging a two-hour plus practice on the grass in the afternoon. Nutt says while his troops didn’t don full pads in the afternoon session, the live work was still extremely useful in combining fundamentals with game speed action.
“We got in about 76 plays today,” Nutt said. “It was very good as far as the number of plays that were executed. The best thing about it is there wasn’t really a ball on the ground offensively or a bunch of missed assignments. But you can tell it is still a little sluggish and a little sloppy. We still have a little ways to go, but we still have some time left. We have to use every day and every practice.”
The UA defense continues to shine in two-a-day workouts. The influx of speedy newcomers has Nutt hopeful of the Hogs’ defense producing more turnovers this season.
“Defensively, I know we can still be better,” Nutt said. “They run to the ball well. I love the attitude and the effort towards the ball. I think we have some guys that can make plays to get the ball and create some turnovers.”
No news was good news on the injury front as the Hogs made it through the workout without any notable injuries. Right tackle Shannon Money and tight end J. Strain remain sidelined along with cornerback Harold Harris and wide receiver Caleb Ceaser.
Arkansas will work twice on Friday before taking part in “Meet the Razorbacks Day” on Saturday afternoon. The fan day will run from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in the grove adjacent to the Tyson Poultry Science Center.
A scrimmage will be held at 6 p.m. at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Fans attending the scrimmage must enter the stadium through the center gate of the east side stands along Stadium Drive. Seating will be available only in the lower deck of the east side. Due to ongoing construction, the rest of the stadium will be off limits.
