Hogs In Transition Prepares Incoming Students

The Office of Student-Athlete Success (OSAS) is excited to be hosting over 60 incoming freshman and transfer student-athletes this summer in the Hogs In Transition (H.I.T.) program.

In its seventh consecutive year, the primary objective of H.I.T. is to assist new student-athletes as they transition into college and the University of Arkansas.

Whether an incoming freshman or transfer, the everyday life of a Division I student-athlete can be challenging. To help combat some of these common challenges, the H.I.T. programming is intentionally directed by different campus constituents.

The campus departments that have already partnered with the OSAS Staff for H.I.T. programming are listed below:

Wednesday, July 5  – Academic Integrity
Student-athletes reviewed the UA academic integrity policies, how to utilize the SafeAssign tool, the process of an academic allegation, and the sanctions rubric.

What the Student-Athletes Are Saying
“The H.I.T. program is very informative because it provides a lot of valuable information that will keep us on the right track,” football freshman David Porter said. “It will make us successful if we use it to our advantage.”

“H.I.T. is beneficial because it shows us were not alone. Not only do we want to see each other succeed, but so does everyone else around us,” said gymnast freshman Lakin Legereit.

“The H.I.T. program gives many student-athletes the opportunity to gather information and gain knowledge from professors and advisors about college,” football freshman Chevin Calloway said. “H.I.T. is also another great way to interact with different student-athletes that are here on campus already.”

“H.I.T. brings student-athletes together and allows you to build relationships with all other sports. The H.I.T. program is beneficial because it educates student-athletes on how to optimize the opportunities given at the University of Arkansas.” said gymnast freshman Sophia Carter.

“H.I.T. is very informative and it has taught me how to be a successful student-athlete at the University Arkansas. It has been beneficial for me because it has showed me how to use my resources to become a better athlete, student, and person.” said gymnast Sydney Laird.

This year’s H.I.T. committee includes the OSAS Director of Educational Enrichment Services Christine Scheets, Assistant Director of Academics Savannah Hall and Assistant Director of Academics Liz Reyes.
