Hogs Ranked No. 28 in Latest ITA Poll; Seniors
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – In its first poll of the year, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) ranked the University of Arkansas men’s tennis team at No. 28. Arkansas found itself ranked ahead of two other SEC teams, Vanderbilt and LSU. All twelve of the SEC’s teams were ranked in the top 35: No. 5 Florida, No. 6 Georgia, No. 8 Ole Miss, No. 9 Kentucky, No. 14 Tennessee, No. 15 Auburn, No. 17 Alabama, No. 22 South Carolina, No. 25 Mississippi State, No. 28 Arkansas, No. 29 Vanderbilt and No. 32 LSU. Finishing atop the poll was UCLA with 29 first place votes. No SEC school received any first place votes.

Individually, the Hogs found their two seniors setting the pace on the court and in the rankings. Aleksey Bubis found himself in the rankings for the first time in his career, breaking in at No. 57. Bubis’ pre-season ranking is the first time he has appeared in the rankings in his career. He finished with a fall record of 10-7 and qualified for the ITA National Indoor Tournament.

Eduardo Pacheco had a late start with the team, but came on strong, finishing the fall with a record of 10-5. Pacheco was ranked at the No. 104 position, tied with TCU’s Fabrizo Sestini. This was also Pacheco’s first ever career rankings appearance.

Only results from the fall season were considered for this ranking. This ranking was voted on by the ITA National Ranking Committee (8 region chairs and 2 Op Comm chairs). The next singles doubles ranking will be administered by the ITA computer system on Feb. 26. Players who did not play during the fall are not ranked and considered “insufficient data.”

The Razorbacks open their season this weekend as Head coach Robert Cox will travel with his top players to the SEC Indoor Tournament in Atlanta, Ga., on Jan 16. The Razorbacks’ first home match will be an exhibition against Scotland’s Stirling College, coached by former UA All-American Euan McGinn. The match is slated for a 3pm start on Jan 21. The Hogs open regular season play against Nebraska at 5 pm on Jan 24.
