Hogs Complete Tuesday Practice

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Following Saturday’s scrimmage, the Arkansas football team returned to the practice fields looking sharp Tuesday afternoon, but head coach Houston Nutt would like to see his players as sharp at the end of the workout.

“We started out very strong and we kind of wilted there at the end,” Nutt said. “We need to be better finishers and that’s going to be the emphasis from today until tomorrow.”

Several players, including Jonathan Luigs and Mark Bonner, sat out of Tuesday’s practice after getting sick over the past couple of days. In Luigs’ absence, Robert Felton and Mike Moffitt filled in at the center position.

Nutt said the coaching staff had made a couple of decisions in regards to the depth chart at the kicker position.

“Alex Tejada is going to kick (field goals) for us and Jeremy Davis is going to punt,” said Nutt, who also said the decision of who will be starting at quarterback will be made soon.

In preparation for their season opener against Troy on Sept. 1, the Razorbacks practiced against a scout team for the first time during this preseason. Nutt said the work the scout teams do is important.

“Our defensive scout team gave us a great look today,” Nutt said.

Alex Mortensen, a letterman from the 2005 squad, returned to the team Tuesday as a member of the scout team.

“(Alex) did a great job as scout team quarterback and we appreciate his efforts,” Nutt said.

Peyton Hillis and Nate Garner returned to practice today and worked out at full speed with the team. Nutt said it was great to have the two back on the field.

The Razorbacks are scheduled to return to the practice fields Wednesday afternoon as they continue to get ready for the beginning of the 2007 season. Log on to www.hogwired.com for more news on Arkansas football.
