Hogs Continue Preparation for SEC Home Opener

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas football team completed a 90-minute workout Wednesday on the practice fields south of Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Head coach Houston Nutt said the team has looked good as it works on game scenarios to prepare for Saturday’s home game with Kentucky.

“We had another good day today. We’re trying to hit all the situations—third-down, goal line, short yardage,” Nutt said. “For the most part, we’ve had a good preparation this week.”

One area Nutt would like to see improvement from the Hogs is on special teams, especially when punting the ball away to Kentucky.

“We worked hard on special teams today. (Kentucky has) a very good returner,” Nutt said. “We have to do a better job on our punt return game. Our kickoff return game has been fine, but we want all those areas in the kicking game to be ready to go.”

The defense is working hard on playing as a collective group and taking care of the individual unit’s responsibilities, especially with the linebackers and secondary. Nutt said he has also talked to the team about the importance of getting a good start in the game.

“I’ve told them the first five minutes is so critical, the very first five minutes,” Nutt said. “We’re at home, so there’s no reason not to be ready to go.”

The Razorbacks are scheduled to put in their final work on the practice fields Thursday afternoon before Saturday’s game. ESPN2 will televise the match up Saturday at 5 p.m. CT. For continued coverage of Arkansas football, log on to www.hogwired.com.
