Hogs Dominate in ITA Playoff; Advance to Sunday Final
TULSA, Okla. – Arkansas opened the 2006 season with consecutive 4-0victories over Wichita St. andTulsaat the ITA Central Region Indoor Playoff Saturdayat the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
The Hogs advance to Sunday’s final, set for first serve at 4 p.m.
In the nightcap against 46th-ranked and top-seed Tulsa, Arkansas’ top two doubles teams earned the Hogsthe doubles point. In singles, seniors Adrians Zguns and100th-rankedRohan Gajjar claimed straight-setwins andtransfer Colin Mascall clinched theHog win with a three-set triumph.
In the opener, the 58th-ranked and fourth-seededHogs took every match in both doubles and singles en route to a 4-0 victory over the Wichita St.
Arkansas’ doubles combinations of Gajjar and Roberts at No. 1 and Strode and Zguns at No. 2 each claimed quick victories to clinch the doubles point. Gajjar and Roberts knocked off Boris Gubic and Goran Vujaklija, 8-4, while Strode and Zguns defeated Thiago Dos Santos and Tiago Espirito Santo, 8-2.
The Razorbacks were just as efficient in singles, with UA winning every point in straight sets. Gajjar, ranked No. 100, was the first to finish, beating Rodrigo Briceno on court 3, 6-1, 6-0. Zguns played in the top spot for the Hogs, and notched a win over Vujaklija, 6-2, 6-3. Jung clinched the Razorback win with his victory over Moti Eisikovits, 6-3, 6-4. Roberts, Strode and Mascall were all up a set when Jung clinched the win.
