The University of Arkansas men’s tennis team fell (3-4), 4-0, to No. 31 Fresno State.
"It was a tough match and we played in tough conditions," said head coach Robert Cox.
In Las Vegas, Nev., the Hogs played the first of two duals matches against the Fresno State Bulldogs. In doubles play, the Hogs kept the match close. In the No. 2 position, Gregoire Lehmann and Chris Nott fell, 8-3, to Francis Alcantara and Jean-Charles Diame. At the No. 3 position, Mike Ward and Nikolas Zogaj defeated Siddharth Alapati and David Ayoun, 8-1. The doubles point was determined by the final match at the No. 1 position. After a hard fought close match, Fresno State clutched the doubles point by defeating Matt Hogan and Matt Walters, 9-7.
"We let the doubles point slip through our fingers," said Cox. "It took some of the wind out of our sails."
In singles, the Hogs dropped three straight matches to the Bulldogs, giving them the 4-0 win. Chris Nott, Matt Hogan and Mike Ward were all defeated. The other three matches remained unfinished.
"I give all the credit to Fresno State," said Cox. "It was a lot closer than the score indicated"
The Razorbacks play again tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. against the UNLV Rebels.
