Hogs Head West for NCAA Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Arkansas track and field will compete in the NCAA Championships this week at Hornet Stadium, in Sacramento, Calif., Wed.-Sat., June 6-9.

Though a NCAA title is slightly out of reach after a season drenched with injuries and illness, an individual title is a distinct possibility for some Hogs. The Razorbacks have won 12 NCAA Outdoor crowns. Arkansas captured a school-record eight-consecutive outdoor team titles from 1992-99.

Arkansas will send a total of seven student-athletes to the 2007 NCAA Championships to compete in five different events.

J-Mee Samuels (100M, 4x100M) is the only Razorback that will compete in multiple events. Nkosinza Balumbu (Triple Jump), Clemore Henry (4x100M), Peter Kosgei (Steeplechase), Mychael Stewart (4x100M), James Strang (5K) and Cedric Zellner (4x100M) will also represent the Razorbacks at the NCAA Championships.

The 2007 NCAA Outdoor Championships will mark the first for Henry, Samuels, Strang and Zellner. Balumbu has qualified for four NCAA Championships while Stewart made his NCAA debut during the 2007 indoor season.

Kosgei will compete in the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the first time since the 2005 season. He redshirted the 2006 outdoor season because of injury. In 2005, Kosgei finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase after running three races in four days.
