Finally, the heat has broken and it feels like football! It’s going to be a great weekend on the Hill. It starts with the dedication of the beautiful new Fred W. Smith Football Center tonight, and culminates quickly with an early kickoff Saturday. If you’re making the trip, bring a light jacket for tomorrow morning. The Razorbacks have had a good week. Some injured players like Otha Peters are getting healthy, and the Southern Miss game provides a great opportunity for implementing before the schedule gets decidedly tougher. While the football team has garnered the lion’s share of the attention, there are some other Razorback programs that are off to great starts. The crowds have been growing at Razorback Field with the soccer team undefeated. Colby Hale has proven to be a great hire, and the soccer team is ranked nationally for the first time in program history. They play at Utah State tonight and at TCU Sunday. The women’s golf team is ranked 8th nationally, and is coming off a solid showing in their first tournament action of the fall. Shauna Estes-Taylor does as good a job with her program as any coach on campus. The same can be said for Brad McMakin and the men’s golf team. They’re ranked 7th nationally and open fall play this weekend at the Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields. The Razorback baseball team is in the midst of fall practice as Dave Van Horn begins the process of building his team for the spring. Lots of new faces and lots of chemistry to develop, but DVH always puts a quality, contending team on the field. The tailgaters are arriving and it’s time to get ready. Have a great weekend. Go Hogs!
